Here is an update on the current (as at 1100, 30 NOV) situation for travelling to Slovakia and skiing Jasna this season.
There’s been a lot of information about the situation in the usual ski destinations like France, Austria and Switzerland, but the less known places like Slovakia are often overlooked (which makes it the hidden gem that it is). So here are the facts; but, do your own research as this is general advice only and the situation changes rapidly and everyone’s situation is specific.
Can I travel to Slovakia without having to isolate on arrival?
From the UK – Yes, but you require a negative PCR test not older than 72 hours.
From Ireland – Yes. Ireland was just added to the safe countries list for Slovakia, so you can arrive with the need to isolate or a negative test.
Other safe countries include Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.
But check your own country’s travel advice as that may impact on your ability to travel or the validity of any travel insurance.
Will the ski resort be open with lifts running?
Jasna is planning to open and operate ski lifts from 15 DEC. Season preparations are in place with snowmaking and lift set up well underway and ski passes on sale now. The ski resort is ready and wants to open; but, we are awaiting a government decision (due this week) on whether Slovakia will or will not follow the planned EU direction to keep ski resort lifts closed until 10 JAN. As soon as we have that information, we will update everyone. But right now we are preparing for a 15 DEC resort opening.
What is the pandemic and Covid-19 situation in Slovakia?
We are not on lockdown, but rather open with restrictions. Most businesses are open and up and running, with some on restrictions - the most noticeable being restaurants, bars and hotels not able to serve food and drinks to customer inside public spaces (along with gyms, indoor pools, having restrictions on visitors or being closed). Many bars and restaurants, including our own @BarFakt have set up heated winter terraces to keep operating.
In terms of the Covid-19 situation, Slovakia’s ECDC new case rate is 349.8 and is on a downward trend, like many EU countries. This compares to:
France – 379.2
Austria – 858.6
Italy – 695.8
Switzerland - 670
Poland – 743.9
UK – 391.3
Ireland - 90.0
Will I need to self-isolate on return from Slovakia?
This will depend on your home country’s pandemic policy and your travel itinerary home (ie if you travel via a third country). You will need to check the latest requirements from your home authorities. But as we understand it now, for all countries there will be a need to isolate upon return from Slovakia.
Is Jasna Adventures planning to open this season? Could you cancel my holiday?
Yes, we will up and running to the full extent we are permitted, and we are not expecting to cancel holiday bookings unless we are forced to closed our chalet. We are opening the chalet for a potential season start on 15 DEC, albeit there may be some changes to usual operations (like serving you breakfast in bed – how tough!). We have our staff organised, rooms ready and taking whole chalet and individual room bookings.
Because we are based full-time in Jasna and own and operate our chalet we will be ready for any and all guests. Even without our usual UK and Irish guests there will be local guests to accommodate. So, as the situation (hopefully) improves through the season, we will be ready to deliver our usual full-package chalet ski holidays.
What if we book a holiday and can’t travel or the ski resort is closed?
You can cancel your Jasna Adventures booking without penalty for ANY reason up until 28 days prior to arrival. You can cancel your booking for COVID-19 reasons at any time prior to arrival without penalty, with the option for a free re-booking, a credit voucher, or a refund. A re-booking will let you book for this or next season without any change to your price.
